Greetings from Down Under!

"As a candidate attorney (CA) at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa, I thought that I was used to a change of scenery every 6 months"

As a candidate attorney (CA) at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa, I thought that I was used to a change of scenery every 6 months at the Johannesburg office. I've been on the 7th floor (in General and Insurance Litigation), the 8th floor (in Employment and Labour), the 6th floor (Banking and Finance) and the 5th floor (Technology) where I'll be settling next year. But in the meantime, I am experiencing a slightly bigger change - a 4 month rotation in Brisbane, Australia!

I am fortunate to be participating in Norton Rose Fulbright's International Seat (rotation) Programme, which is maybe best described as a "CA exchange". A CA from the Brisbane office spent a few months with us earlier in the year. Another Brisbane CA is now off to Singapore. I will shortly be joining the Real Estate team in their office, together with a CA from Hong Kong. With 55 offices in 23 countries, it's possible to spend time on any continent (besides Antarctica).

Living and working in another city is something I have always wanted to experience. There is much to be learned from practicing law another country (with a different legal system), working in a foreign office and submerging myself in another culture (thankfully all in English!). I plan to take advantage of every opportunity and hope to return next year having grown as a South African lawyer and woman.

In the meantime, I am spending a few days exploring Sydney. I visited the Sydney office today and was amazed at how much it felt like "home". It's been a fabulous trip so far (and this view doesn't hurt either).

Please tune in to future episodes!
